Gath helmets are the number one choice for all types of rescue personnel across the globe.
They are worn by the coastguard, military, water fireman, navy, sea rescue, jet rescue, state emergency services and other professional personnel who need the protection of a water rescue helmet.
Q: Which is the best water rescue helmet in your range?
Professional personnel typically choose the Gath RV, Gath Gedi or Surf Convertible.
You will note that some of our helmets are available in safety colours (e.g. illuminous yellow or orange). These choices are particularly good for water rescue as they help to improve visibility of personnel.
The Gath Gedi is one of the most popular water rescue helmet choices. It is approved by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA), Australia’s peak coastal water safety, drowning prevention and rescue authority.
It is also EN1385 approved which means Gath has declared it complies with the relevant European health safety and environmental protection legislation. There are six parts to this safety standard that give rescue personnel peace of mind. These cover:
- Extent of coverage
- Field of vision
- Retention system performance
- Shock absorbing capacity
If a helmet has been tested to CE EN 1385, it will be suitable for sports and activities where there is a possibility of impact. However it will not be suitable for whitewater classes 4 and 5 which are beyond the scope of the safety standard.
The Gedi’s safety standards are not the only reason it is popular with professional safety personnel looking for a high quality rescue helmet. The Gedi weighs just 360-420 grams (the actual weight depends of course on which size you order) and is highly customisable with peaks and visors to suit the conditions (see our range of Gedi helmet accessories for examples). The lightweight design and high level of customisation make this a really popular choice.
